my mother-in-law just sent me an essay on raising kids, by anna quindlen, and this line was good:
"Raising children is presented at first as a true-false test, then becomes
multiple choice, until finally, far along, you realize that it is an endless
essay. No one knows anything."

Alas, I can't comment on this insight as a parent, but I think this is similar to the evolution of my understanding of my own life as a Christian. I suspect a similar measure of relief ensues upon letting go of having to be the correct answer. Whew.
isn't that about the enfolding of life in general?
true/falses and multiple choices are too tricky anyway. essays have a chance to justify themselves.
