wednesdays are for completing the to-do list

took three days to get through monday's list, and now it's done. if course, the laundry has begun to pile up again, and so have the dishes, but ain't that just the way.
in between slaving over the list, a few really good things happened:

- discussion of the first ten chapters of _the grapes of wrath_ with my beloved reading group, in which the conversation ranged far and wide (and was accompanied by cheryl's beautiful tapenade and brooke's tasty gin-and-tonics (mine was virgin))

- long, lovely and much overdue conversation with gina, which ranged far and wide

- getting a hard copy of my second published academic article in the newest issue of "college composition and communication," which was four years in the writing and publishing

- making the summer's first batch of cold-brew toddy

- making my first-ever chicken marbella, inspired, again, by cheryl, who, with gina, anna and michelle, is one of my culinary muses

what's new with you?

Woohoo. Sounds like an excellent week so far. I'm off to Carrel 115, interrupted to teach quite a few voice lessons today. Made a delicious stew last night with fresh "uglies" from Tomato Paradise, fresh parsley from Paula, dill, shrimp and feta cheese. Quilting some in the evening. Trying not to melt in the heat and humidity.

darby--your post on what you did monday was encouraging to me. i stirred up some energy today after working the last three days and made a giant to do list and put it on the fridge. will see what gets accomplished...but right now i am drinking a giant glass of ice tea, so...yeah. thanks for making me smile :)

did i hear you right? you were published? congratulations! look at you! what did you write on? do tell!

i'm interested in the cold-brew toddy. i'll have to check that link out.

what's new: i've been looking for houses, taking care of my mom (she had surgery- malignant melanoma), getting ready for a weekend of kitchen remodeling at her place with all the family involved (sending a prayer up), also reading with a book group: three cups of tea, and spending time contemplating (but not yet doing) some packing.

p.s.- maybe i don't have an imagination, but how is it possible to have a virgin gin & tonic?

:)

yup, my graduate thesis (from 2004) turned into an article with the help of my mentor, and was picked up by an academic journal. i'm happy to see it in print. but it does feel like it happened another life ago.

if you click the link to the journal and scroll down to the link that says, "Read The Extended CCC, including the latest issue . . ."
you'll see a list of all the articles. mine is called "chaos is the poetry" and is co-authored with shari stenberg. enjoy!

virgin gin and tonic: lime juice and tonic water over ice. it's not the same.
